Root Canal Treatment
Decayed teeth if not treated on time can lead to periapical infection (root-end infection) which will lead to bone loss around the teeth. Eventually, spreading to neighbouring teeth. Such tooth aches while biting. It can be saved by doing root canal treatment.
All the root canals of the affected teeth are cleaned using specially designed instruments to clear the infection and then filled. The actual procedure involves numbing of the affected tooth, so that the treatment is painless.
Special drills are used to remove the decay and to make an opening into the root canal. Specific instruments called files are used to clean and kill the bacteria living in the canal along with proper medicines. Finally, the canals are filled and sealed. Once the filling is complete, the tooth is ready for a crown or cap to protect it from breaking and to have its full function.
Crowns and Bridges
Missing teeth, if not treated on time can lead to migration of teeth around the spaces. Importance is given only if the front teeth are missing and the functional back teeth for grinding is neglected leading to improper occlusion (difficulty in biting, chewing, pain in the joint etc). Such tooth could be replaced by a bridge.
A bridge is a way to replace one or more missing teeth. Replacing missing teeth makes it easier to chew. It helps to maintain the teeth alignment. It also helps to keep your teeth, gums and jaws healthy.
The bridge could be made of
Dentures
Complete Dentures
As the name suggests, if all the teeth are missing then teeth can be prosthetically replaced with the help of complete dentures.
Partial Dentures
If few teeth are missing it can be replaced with partial dentures which are of various kinds like
Orthodontic Treatment (dental braces)
Discrepancy in the tooth size and jaw size can lead to malocclusion (crowded teeth, gaps in-between teeth, etc). This can be corrected using functional appliances like
Fillings
Decayed teeth, if it has not progressed so deep into the root can be filled after throughly cleaning it. Once the decay is cleared, the cavity should be filled with appropriate material which can withstand the biting force.
Different kinds of fillings are there to choose from.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
The third molar which is commonly known as the wisdom tooth erupts much later the the other teeth. If there is no space, the tooth gets impacted. This can lead to food deposition and eventually cavities. Such tooth if it is problematic, should be removed.
Laminates and Veneers
Lamiates and Veneers are used to alter the size, shape and color of teeth to improve the aesthetics.
Periodontal Gum Surgery
Periodontitis is a disease of the bone supporting the tooth. If it is not treated on time, it can lead to bone loss making the tooth mobile. It can be treated by doing a periodontal surgery or flap surgery.
Teeth Whitening (bleaching)
Teeth get stained based on our food and beverage intake, habits, etc. Some stains are external which can be cleaned by professional cleaning (scaling).
The internal stains cannot be cleaning by scaling. Teeth Whitening gels are available to reduce the internal stain, which inturn brightens the teeth.
Dental Implants
Missing teeth, if not treated on time can lead to migration of teeth around the spaces. Such tooth could be replaced with the help of dental implants.
